April 23, 2014We will have our Chapter 7 (Proportional Relationship) test on Thursday, 5/1. Students should study their notes on ratios, rate, ordered pairs, precents, decimals, and fractions.
March 24, 2014We will have our Chapter 9 test on Thursday, 3/27. Students should know the different properties discussed in 9-1, along with the rules needed to solve the different types (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and two-step) of equations.
March 4, 2014There will be a quiz on solving addition and subtraction equations on Friday, 3/7. This will be our final math grade for the trimester and, like last trimester, the lowest quiz grade will be dropped.
February 19, 2014There will be an integer test on Friday, 2/21. This will cover addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of negative and positive integers. Make sure to know all the rules and how to use Order of Operations.
February 11, 2014We will have a quiz on Friday, 2/14. It will cover our new multiplication material, as well as, addition and subtraction.
January 31, 2014The Integer test has been postponed until Monday, February 3.
January 29, 2014There will be an Adding and Subtracting Integers test on Friday, January 31. Students should be able to explain in words the rules we learned for adding integers and subtracting them.
January 23, 2014We will have an Adding Integers quiz on Friday, January 24. The students have known about this quiz since Tuesday. I will still be letting students drop their lowest quiz grade at the end of the trimester. This will be our second quiz.
January 16, 2014Our class is now working with negative and positive integers. We will be learning how to add, subtract, multiply and divide with negative and positive numbers. This chapter is VERY important for when the class moves into 7th & 8th grade math. Mrs. Liberato and I will be team teaching these concepts. The students seem to really enjoy our lessons. We are very happy to welcome Mrs. Liberato into our math class!
December 18, 2013The following are the "Communicating Mathematically" questions for tomorrow's test.
December 11, 2013We will have our Chapter 5 test on Thursday, 12/19.
December 3, 2013On Friday, 12/6, we will be having a Chapter 5 Quiz on Lessons 5.1-5.4. Like the first trimester, at the end of the second trimester the lowest quiz grade will be dropped.
November 18, 2013Chapter 4 test will be on Thursday, 11/21. We will be spending Monday-Wednesday reviewing concepts from the chapter.
October 30, 2013The next chapter we will be working on is Chapter 4: Number Theory and Fractions (Mixed Number, too!). We will be starting this chapter on Monday, 11/4. Students are asked to go on IXL for at least 20 minutes over our extended weekend and practice these skills. The sections on IXL that will be helpful are N.1-N.9 and T.1-T.10. This chapter does not involve operations of fractions (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing) that is the topic of chapter 5.
October 20, 2013Our second math test will be on Thursday, 10/24. I have decided that majority of the test will be questions about decimals (Chapter 3), but I will also be including a few Order of Operations (Chapter 1) and Introduction to Algebra (Chapter 2) questions on the test. I will then use whichever test (#1 or #2) grade is higher as the sole math test grade so far for this trimester. The questions on Ch.1 and 2 that will be on the test this week will be taken directly from test #1, so please have your child study from their old test. There will be no written definitions, but please be sure your child can distinguish the difference between the properties. I will be explaining this to the students in class tomorrow, 10/21. If there are any questions regarding this, please contact me.
October 17, 2013Our second math test has been pushed back a day to Thursday, 10/24.
October 14, 2013Our second math test is tentatively set for Wednesday, 10/23. This test will just be on Chapter 3 material.
October 10, 2013We just started Chapter 3: Decimals this week. We will be doing anything you can think of that involves decimals (representing, comparing, ordering, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, interpreting, and solving decimal equations). There are sections on IXL students can practice that will help with decimals.
I will be dropping the lowest quiz grade at the end of the trimester for each student. I am hoping to have at least two more by the end of the trimester. ALL quizzes are given as open textbook.
October 9, 2013
Math tests will be coming home today. They do not need to be signed, unless otherwise noted. If your child completed the online practice tests (which were assigned for homework Thursday-Sunday night) they received 5 extra points on their test! If they did not complete the online tests they may do corrections for their test (on a separate piece of paper) and receive the 5 extra points. This is optional, but highly recommended.
